This session will provide an introduction to advocacy and lobbying for 501 c 3 public charities. This session will provide an overview of how nonprofits can freely exercise their right to advocate on behalf of the issues, people, and values that they care about but without fear of penalties from the IRS, or other important stakeholders. Whether your organization wants to engage in providing nonpartisan education on voting rights, or lobby in defense of your organization's future, this session will provide a few tips and tools for the unconventional "lobbyist."
Karin Orr
Karin Orr is the Program Director for Johns Hopkins University's graduate Nonprofit Management program. Karin has worked in the non-profit sector for over a decade providing programmatic, managerial, and financial support to the sector. In her role as an advisor and educator, she works with graduate students who aspire to found, manage, and operate their own nonprofit. Prior to this position, she worked for The Advocacy Project, a human rights advocacy organization, managing a fellowship program. Karin has an MA in International Policy with an emphasis on Conflict Resolution from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, and is a doctoral candidate at the Carter School of Conflict Analysis and Resolution, George Mason University.
